Ethyl pyridine, also known as pyridine ethyl and pyridine hydrochloride, is an organic compound often used as a solvent, as a reagent in organic synthesis, and as a pesticide and insecticide. Common industries in which this chemical is used include pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and textiles.
When rubber is exposed to ethyl pyridine, the rubber may become brittle, crack, and degrade. The rubber may also swell, become weaker, and eventually leak due to the chemical's ability to break down rubber polymers. Additionally, the chemical may lead to weakened adhesion between rubber and other components.
