Ethyl benzoate is also known as benzenecarboxylic acid ethyl ester, benzoic acid ethyl ester, and ethyl ester of benzoic acid. It is commonly used as a solvent, as a flavoring agent, and as an insect repellent.
When rubber is exposed to ethyl benzoate, it can cause the rubber to swell, harden, soften, shrink, or become brittle. This can lead to cracking, tearing, splitting, and eventual failure of the rubber. In addition, exposure to ethyl benzoate can cause the rubber to degrade, leading to increased permeability, reduced flexibility, and decreased strength.
