DOW GUARD, also known as 2-Mercaptobenzothiazole, is a sulfur-containing organic compound that is used in the rubber industry as an accelerator in the curing process. It is also used as an antioxidant to protect rubber from oxidation and heat damage.
When rubber is exposed to DOW GUARD, common types of failures can include discoloration and hardening due to the accelerated curing process. Additionally, oxidation and heat damage can cause rubber seals to become brittle, leading to cracking and loss of product integrity.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
