DOW CORNING 11 is also known as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and is a synthetic silicone rubber commonly used for sealing, lubrication, insulation, and anti-corrosion. Common uses for PDMS include medical devices, electronics, automotive, and aerospace applications.
PDMS may be susceptible to failure when exposed to certain chemicals, such as solvents, petroleum-based fluids, and acids. Solvents can cause softening and embrittlement of the rubber, while petroleum-based fluids can cause swelling, hardening, and cracking. Acids can cause discoloration, swelling, and softening of the rubber, leading to premature failure.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
