DIPENTENE, also known as Limonene, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C10H16. It is a colorless liquid with a pleasant citrus odor and is used as a solvent and flavoring agent in many industries. Limonene is also used in fragrances, cleaning products, and as a precursor in the production of plastics, solvents, and other chemicals.
When rubber is exposed to limonene, it can cause deterioration of the rubber due to its solvent properties. Limonene can cause swelling, softening, and cracking of the rubber, leading to a decrease in its physical properties and ultimately, failure. The severity of these effects will depend on the type of rubber and the concentration of limonene present.
