Dioxolane, also known as 1,3-dioxolane, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C3H6O2. It is a colorless liquid with a sweet, ether-like odor and is used as a solvent in various industries. Dioxolane is used in the production of polyurethane foam and adhesives, in coatings, as a plasticizer for plastics, as a stabilizer for latex, and in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals.
When rubber is exposed to dioxolane, it can cause the rubber to become brittle and crack due to the solvent's ability to dissolve certain rubber components. Dioxolane can also cause swelling and softening of the rubber, leading to deformation. The severity of these effects can vary depending on the type of rubber and the concentration of dioxolane present.
