Dioxane, also known as 1,4-dioxane, is a colorless liquid with a faint sweet odor. It is used as a solvent in various industrial applications, including paint and coatings, pharmaceuticals, and printing inks. It is also used as a stabilizer for chlorinated solvents.
When rubber is exposed to dioxane, it can cause swelling, softening, and a decrease in mechanical strength. It can also lead to cracking, crazing, and discoloration of the material. Additionally, the rubber may become brittle and suffer from an accelerated rate of degradation. Dioxane can also cause the rubber to become more permeable to water, gases, and other chemicals.
