Diethyl phthalate, also known asDEP, is a chemical compound used in the production of plastics and rubber products. Common uses of DEP include plasticizers, lubricants, and fragrance components.
When rubber components are exposed to DEP, the rubber can become brittle and hard. This can lead to a decrease in flexibility, strength, and durability of the rubber seal. Additionally, the rubber can become more susceptible to cracking and tearing, leading to a decrease in sealing capabilities. Over time, the rubber can also break down due to the presence of DEP, resulting in a decrease in reliability.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
