Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (DCA) is also known as 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and is a widely used herbicide and plant growth regulator. It is primarily used in agriculture to control weeds, but is also used in forestry, land reclamation and other areas. In terms of rubber interactions, DCA can cause accelerated ageing of the rubber resulting in cracking, swelling and brittleness. In addition, when exposed to DCA, rubber can become brittle and hard, leading to premature failure.
