Dichlorobutene, also known as 1,2-dichlorobutane or 2-chlorobutane, is a colorless liquid chemical compound commonly used as a solvent and in the production of rubber and plastic products. It is also used in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, plastics, and pesticide intermediates.
Rubber materials are commonly exposed to Dichlorobutene in the form of solvents, leading to potential failure of the rubber material. The rubber can swell, shrink, harden, become brittle, and crack over time due to the solvent’s ability to penetrate the rubber material. Additionally, the chemical can cause discoloration of the rubber material and can compromise the integrity of the rubber seal. Care must be taken to ensure proper usage and application of the solvent to prevent any adverse effects on the rubber material.
