Copper acetate is a chemical compound also known as cupric acetate, copper(II) acetate, or cupric ethanoate. It is widely used in the dye and textile industry as a mordant, in leather tanning as an astringent, and as a preservative in wood preservation. Common types of failures when rubber is exposed to copper acetate include cracking, swelling, discoloration, and corrosion. Rubber parts exposed to copper acetate can also experience a decrease in strength and flexibility, which can result in a loss of performance.
EPDM o-rings, or ethylene propylene o-rings, are a family of synthetic elastomers with lower cost steam and chemical resistance, particularly for applications involving solvents, acids and other mild chemicals.
