Chloronaphthalene, also known as p-dichlorobenzene and p-chlorophenyl, is an organic compound often used in the production of insecticides, plastics, dyes, and other products. It is also used as a fumigant, moth repellent, and air freshener.
When rubber is exposed to chloronaphthalene, it can cause swelling, hardening, cracking, and brittleness. As the rubber ages and is exposed to the chemical, it can become more brittle and crack more easily. The presence of chloronaphthalene can also lead to a decrease in the rubber's tensile strength, which can cause it to become more prone to failure.
