CARBITOL is also known as diethylene glycol monomethyl ether (DEGME). It is commonly used as a solvent in the ink and paint industries, as a component of hydraulic fluids, and as a component in some types of surfactants.
When rubber is exposed to CARBITOL, it can cause swelling and softening of the rubber material, leading to a breakdown in the physical properties of the rubber. In some cases, prolonged exposure to CARBITOL can cause the rubber to become brittle and crack, leading to complete failure. Additionally, CARBITOL can cause rubber to become sticky and tacky, leading to a loss of functionality.
