Caproic aldehyde, also known as hexanal, is an organic compound with an aldehyde functional group. It is a colorless liquid with a strong, unpleasant odor. Common uses of caproic aldehyde include the manufacture of perfumes and flavoring agents.
When rubber is exposed to caproic aldehyde, it can become brittle and crack. This is due to the fact that the aldehyde breaks down the chemical bonds of the rubber, leading to a weakening of the material. Additionally, the aldehyde can cause oxidation of the rubber material, leading to a decrease in its effectiveness.
