Calcium Silicate, also known as wollastonite, is a naturally occurring mineral composed of calcium and silicate. It is commonly used in the manufacturing of insulation, ceramics, and as a filler in plastics. Additionally, calcium silicate is used in the automotive and aerospace industries to strengthen metals and other materials.
When rubber is exposed to calcium silicate, it can cause a number of common types of failure, such as cracking, embrittlement, and swelling. These failures can occur due to the reaction of the calcium silicate with the rubber, which can reduce the rubber’s ability to resist wear and tear. Additionally, the calcium silicate can cause long term plasticization of the rubber, resulting in a softening of the rubber over time.
