Calcium acetate, also known as calcium ethanoate, is a salt of calcium and acetic acid. It is commonly used in the food industry as an additive and preservative, as well as in the medical field for uses such as antacids and treatments for calcium deficiencies.
Common types of failures when rubber is exposed to calcium acetate include oxidation, discoloration, and cracking. The acidity of the calcium acetate can cause the rubber to oxidize, leading to discoloration and loss of strength. In addition, the acidity can corrode the rubber, leading to cracking and accelerated aging.
EPDM o-rings, or ethylene propylene o-rings, are a family of synthetic elastomers with lower cost steam and chemical resistance, particularly for applications involving solvents, acids and other mild chemicals. Marco Rubber has the world’s largest inventory network of EPDM o-rings and made on demand custom manufacturing often without tooling fees, so the EPDM o-rings you need are always available. Whether it’s for water systems, braking systems, medical, pharmaceutical, food or dairy use, you can count on Marco Rubber to deliver your o-rings fast and efficiently.
