Cadmium sulfate, also known as CdSO4, is a white crystalline compound commonly used in the production of pigments and batteries. It is also used in electroplating, as a mordant in dyeing, and to make ceramics.
Common types of failures when rubber is exposed to cadmium sulfate include discoloration, brittleness, cracking, and accelerated aging. The sulfate can cause the rubber to become brittle and hard due to the increased hardness of the material. In addition, the sulfate can corrode the rubber, leading to cracking and accelerated aging. The sulfate can also cause the rubber to become more susceptible to ozone and ultraviolet light.
