Bunker C fuel oil is a low-viscosity residual fuel oil utilized as a marine fuel. It is also known as a distillate fuel oil, a fuel oil for marine engines, and a heavy fuel oil. Bunker C fuel oil is used as a fuel source for marine engines, power plants, and heavy-duty industrial machines.
Common types of failures when rubber is exposed to Bunker C fuel oil include swelling, discoloration, cracking, and hardening. Swelling occurs when the rubber absorbs the Bunker C fuel oil, leading to a decrease in tensile strength. Discoloration and cracking can occur due to exposure to the high temperatures created by Bunker C fuel oil combustion. Hardening can occur as a result of oxidation and the breakdown of the rubber due to exposure to Bunker C fuel oil vapors.
