Bromine water, also known as hypobromous acid, is a chemical compound composed of bromine and water. It is used in water treatment to disinfect water, as well as a bleaching agent in the textile industry. When it comes to rubber, bromine water can cause rapid corrosion and cracking due to the oxidizing effect of bromine. This can be seen in the form of discoloration and brittle rubber. Additionally, bromine water can also cause embrittlement, leading to rubber becoming hard and brittle, leading to eventual failure.
