Bornyl Formate, also known as 2-bornanone Formate, is a colorless liquid with a pleasant odor. It is used primarily in the flavor and fragrance industry due to its pleasant aroma and low toxicity. It is also used as a solvent, in the production of polymers, and as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds.
When rubber is exposed to Bornyl Formate, several types of failures can occur. The rubber can become brittle and crack, leading to a decrease in mechanical strength. The rubber can also discolor, swell, and soften, resulting in a loss of tightness and seal integrity. Bornyl Formate can also cause a decrease in the rubber's physical properties, such as hardness, elasticity, and permeability. Additionally, Bornyl Formate can react with the rubber to form chemical compounds, which can further damage the rubber.
