Borneol is an organic compound also known as camphor camphor, borneal, or Borneo camphor. It is a terpene which is found in a variety of natural sources such as cinnamon, sage, and other herbs. Common uses for borneol include as a flavoring agent, as a fragrance in cosmetics, and as an ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine.
When rubber is exposed to borneol, it can cause the rubber to become brittle and break easily. Additionally, borneol can cause the rubber to become discolored and can lead to premature aging and cracking. Long term exposure to borneol can cause the rubber to become soft and sticky, and can cause it to degrade quickly.
