Benzophenone, also known as Diphenylmethanone, is an organic compound commonly used in cosmetics, fragrances, and various plastics. Additionally, it is used in the production of dyes, antioxidants, and UV filters.
When rubber is exposed to Benzophenone, it may experience swelling, hardening, and discoloration. Additionally, the rubber may become brittle, and crack under extreme temperature changes, due to the chemical’s tendency to break down rubber’s elastomeric properties. It can also cause embrittlement, and a loss of tensile strength.
