Benzoin, also known as Styrax Benzoin or Gum Benjamin, is a resin used in perfumes and fragrances, as well as for medicinal and religious purposes. It is also used for coating wood and other surfaces.
When exposed to Benzoin, rubber may experience swelling, cracking, and discoloration. It can also cause embrittlement, and a loss of tensile strength. Additionally, the rubber may become brittle and crack under extreme temperature changes, due to the chemical’s tendency to break down rubber’s elastomeric properties.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
