Benzoic Acid is also known as Carboxybenzene or Phenylformic Acid, and is a commonly used preservative, antifungal, and antibacterial agent in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries. It is also used as a dye and in some industrial processes.
When exposed to Benzoic Acid, rubber is susceptible to swelling, cracking, and discoloration. It can also cause embrittlement and a loss of tensile strength. Additionally, the rubber may become brittle and crack under extreme temperature changes, due to the chemical’s tendency to break down rubber’s elastomeric properties.
