ARGON Resistant O-Rings and Seals
Argon is a colorless and odorless gas that is the most common in the Earth's atmosphere. It is also commonly used in welding, lasers, and lighting applications. In industrial and medical applications it is used for inert atmospheres, as a refrigerant, and as an anesthetic in medical settings.
When rubber is exposed to argon, it can cause a variety of failures. Low temperatures can cause embrittlement, cracking and hardening of the rubber. Also, rubber can become brittle and break down due to oxidation. In some cases, argon can react with certain rubber compounds and cause them to swell or soften. The reaction can also cause the rubber to degrade and become porous.
