Ammonium Picrate, also known as 2,4,6-trinitrophenol, is a yellow crystalline solid that is used as an industrial explosive and as a precursor for other explosives. It is also used as a laboratory reagent and in the production of azo dyes. Common types of failures when rubber is exposed to ammonium picrate are embrittlement, cracking, shrinking, swelling, and discoloration. These effects can be caused by the picrate's strong oxidizing properties, which can result in the breakdown of rubber's polymer chains. Additionally, the acidic nature of the picrate can cause corrosion of the rubber, leading to further breakdown.
