Alkanesulfonic acid, also known as alkylsulfonic acid, is a class of organic acids that are used in a variety of industrial applications. Common uses for alkanesulfonic acid include use as surfactants, detergents, and cleaning agents in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. When exposed to alkanesulfonic acid, rubber can suffer from swelling, cracking, and discoloration. In extreme cases, the rubber can even lose its structural integrity, becoming brittle and prone to breakage.
