Alkanes, also known as paraffins, are hydrocarbons with the general formula CnH2n+2. They are commonly used as fuel, lubricants, and solvents in various industries.
When rubber is exposed to alkanes, it can cause swelling, cracking and hardening of the rubber material. This is due to the fact that alkanes are organic solvents and can dissolve elastomers. These changes can affect the performance of the seal, resulting in leaks and eventually failure.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
