AERO SHELL 17 GREASE is a lubricant grease commonly used in the aviation industry. It is made up of a mixture of mineral oils, calcium sulfonate and petroleum-based oils. It can be used to lubricate and protect bearing surfaces, gears, and other moving parts in aircraft, helicopters, and other aircraft components. Common uses for AERO SHELL 17 GREASE also include industrial and automotive applications.
When exposed to AERO SHELL 17 GREASE, rubber materials may suffer from swelling, cracking and premature aging. Ozone and acid cracking, swelling, and softening are common types of failures. Swelling of rubber materials can be caused by the hydrocarbon content in the lubricant, while acid cracking can be caused by the acidic nature of the lubricant. Ozone cracking can occur when the lubricant is exposed to high temperatures, such as those found in aircraft engines.
