Acetylene Dichloride, also known as dichloroethane, is a colorless, volatile, and flammable chemical compound. It is commonly used in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics and synthetic rubber as a chlorinating agent. Acetylene Dichloride is also used in the production of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and insecticides.
When rubber is exposed to Acetylene Dichloride the rubber can be degraded, resulting in weakening of the rubber material. The rubber can also become embrittled, resulting in cracking and splitting. Additionally, the rubber can become discolored and brittle, affecting the overall performance of the rubber.
