Acetylene, also known as ethyne, is a colorless, flammable gas with a distinct odor. It is used as an industrial fuel, in the production of acetaldehyde, in welding and cutting metals, and in the production of plastics.
When exposed to acetylene, rubber may experience cracking due to its tendency to absorb the gas. Additionally, the gas' highly reactive nature may cause the rubber to degrade and become brittle over time, resulting in a decrease in its elasticity.
Viton ® o-rings from Marco Rubber offer excellent compatibility with a range of chemicals, oils and resist high temperatures up to 400F. Viton ® is also known as FKM made of fluoroelastomer one of the most versatile and widely used sealing materials.
