Acetic anhydride, also known as ethanoic anhydride and acetic oxide, is a colorless, flammable organic compound with the chemical formula (CH3CO)2O. It is widely used as a reagent in organic synthesis, as a solvent for cellulose acetate, and for production of acetic acid, vinyl acetate, and acetate esters.
Common types of failure when rubber is exposed to acetic anhydride include cracking and discoloration due to oxidation and hydrolysis. In addition, acetic anhydride is an extremely strong acid and can cause swelling, softening, and embrittlement of rubber materials. It can also cause damage to the rubber’s surface, leading to premature wear and tear.
Markez ® high performance perfluoroelastomer O-Rings (FFKM) offer unmatched value for demanding sealing applications. Produced from nearly identical ingredients as higher priced brands, Markez ® compounds are used for high temperature o-rings and high pressure o-rings and chemical resistant o-rings that deliver similar performance to major FFKM brands, with temperature resistance up to 625oF, at a significantly lower cost. Our proprietary processing allow us to supply seals under an inch in size more efficiently. Introduced exclusively to existing customers over 15 years ago, we now have the experience and capacity to offer Markez ® high temperature o-rings and high pressure o-rings to the world.
