Acetic acid ethyl ester, also known as ethyl acetate, is a colorless, flammable liquid with a fruity odor. It is commonly used as a solvent in the production of paints, lacquers, printing inks, varnishes, and adhesives. It is also used as a flavoring compound in food production and as a fragrance ingredient in perfumes and cosmetics.
Rubber materials exposed to ethyl acetate can suffer issues such as ozone cracking, swelling, softening, loss of strength and flexibility, and solubilization. The solubility and swelling of rubber materials can vary widely depending on the type of rubber and the concentration and duration of exposure to ethyl acetate. In addition, rubber deterioration can be accelerated when ethyl acetate is exposed to heat, light and/or ozone.
