FLUOROBORIC ACID Resistant O-Rings and Seals

Fluoroboric acid is also known as hydrogen fluoride borate, boric acid fluoride, and boron trifluoride and is commonly used in the production of fluoropolymers and as a catalyst. It is also used in the production of pharmaceuticals, in the chemical industry for cleaning and etching, and as an insecticide.

When rubber is exposed to fluoroboric acid, the rubber may become brittle and prone to cracking, leading to physical failure. The acid can also cause the elastomeric polymeric chains to break down and degrade, reducing the rubber's flexibility and strength. This can lead to a loss of elasticity and an inability to return to its original shape after being stretched. Additionally, repeated exposure to fluoroboric acid can cause the rubber to degrade faster than normal.

Buna-N (NBR, Nitrile, Buna)

Buna-N o-rings also referred to as NBR o-rings and Nitrile o-rings are the most widely used o-ring material in the word because of low cost, good mechanical performance with resistance to water, most basic oils, lubricants and some fuels, many pneumatic, hydraulic systems, and the default choice for basic applications. Buna-N o-rings are not recommended for exposure to sunlight, UV light, ozone and general outdoor weathering or hash chemicals, acids, keytones and many others.
