What are the benefits of using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marcorubber.com\/ffkm-o-rings.htm\">FFKM o-rings<\/a> in your seals?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Extremely Temperature Resistant<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the primary benefits of using FFKM for o-rings is its extreme temperature resistance. FFKM formulations can withstand operating temperatures as low as approximately -49\u00b0F (-45\u00b0C) and as high as 635\u00b0F (335\u00b0C).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nearly Universal Chemical Resistance<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FFKM offers the best chemical resistance on the market, in terms of the number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marcorubber.com\/o-ring-chemical-compatibility-chart.htm\">chemicals and compatibility<\/a> with them. FFKM is resistant to over 1,800 chemicals, solvents, and plasmas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excellent Gas and Liquid Permeation Resistance<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Permeation occurs when a liquid or gas gets into a material\u2019s pores and causes cracks, leading to seal failures and leaks. FFKM stands up exceedingly well to permeation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excellent Weather Ability and Ozone Resistance<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When designing a seal for use outdoors, additional elements come into play, such as weather and ozone exposure. When a seal experiences the fluctuations in temperature, humidity, and other elements brought on by being outdoors, they can quickly degrade, resulting in failure and leaks. Thus, using a material like FFKM that readily withstands weathering and ozone exposure is pivotal to sealing success.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Non-Flammable in Air<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some alternatives to FFKM materials can be flammable, which, of course, creates a risk to the application, environment, and personnel. FFKM is both self-extinguishing and non-flammable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Low Outgassing Properties\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mgchemicals.com\/knowledgebase\/white-papers\/what-is-outgassing\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outgassing (or offgassing)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> refers to when a polymer puts off vapors, usually under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marcorubber.com\/high-temperature-seals\">high temperatures<\/a> or low pressures. In high sensitivity applications in harsh environments, such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marcorubber.com\/medical-o-rings.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pharmaceuticals<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marcorubber.com\/semiconductor-o-rings.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">semiconductor manufacturing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or vacuum environments, like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">outer space<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, outgassing is of particular concern. The extractables put off during outgassing can damage sensors or harm sterility.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FFKM has low extractables, meaning it has low outgassing properties, and is a safer choice for these applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Good Mechanical Properties<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FFKM o-rings offer excellent compression set and sealing performance thanks to FFKM\u2019s mechanical properties.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suitable for Explosive Decompression<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Explosive decompression is a rapid, violent depressurization, forcing gas into the polymer. If the pressure is not released properly, it can cause the polymer to rupture. This, in turn, leads to seal failure, leaks, expensive messes, costly clean-up, and, of course, downtime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a seal to survive explosive decompression, you need to use a material like FFKM that is suitable for the rapid pressure change and forthcoming pressurized gas.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Easily Customizable Shapes<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FFKM\u2019s mechanical properties not only improve seal quality and performance, but also make it easier to customize into a number of shapes, including but not limited to o-rings, gaskets, and tri-clamps.
