The Challenge: An Extruding O-Ring Causing Seal Failure

A large military tech company approached the Marco Rubber & Plastics engineering team with a failing pressure vessel o-ring. The OEM seal was extruding from the o-ring groove — causing short seal life and catastrophic failure during operation.

The Solution: Careful Analysis for Long-Term Performance

Our engineering experts examined the application and found that the o-ring groove dimensions and inconsistencies were causing the seal to be more vulnerable to extrusion and damage during assembly.

We made recommendations to modify the groove to be more reliable while under extreme pressures. Alterations in size to the o-ring were also recommended to compensate for the increased pressure loads.

The Result: A Long-Lasting O-Ring Groove Design

After manufacturing and testing the proposed solution, the new o-rings were found to function perfectly within assembly and testing conditions. And thanks to our recommendations for modifying the groove, both elements ensured a more secure and long-lasting seal.
