Water Absorption, 24hrs, %

WATER ABSORPTION: The measure of water uptake by plastic materials. Various plastics absorb varying amounts of water, and the presence of absorbed water may affect plastics in different ways. Specimens are dried for 24 hrs in an oven at 50ºC, cooled in a desiccator and immediately weighed.

Tensile Strength, psi

TENSILE STRENGTH: The maximum tensile stress (stretching) applied uniformly over the cross-section that a material can withstand without failure. This is the most important single indication of strength in a material.

Flexural Modulus, psi

FLEXURAL MODULUS: The fraction of applied stress to a resultant strain. Since plastics don’t exhibit perfect elasticity, a tangent modulus is generally reported.

Elongation, %

ELONGATION: The increase in length caused by a tensile force and expressed numerically as a fraction or percentage of the initial length.

Izod Impact (Notched), ft-lb/in

IZOD IMPACT STRENGTH (NOTCHED): The energy required to break notched specimens under standard conditions. This is a good indicator of overall toughness and impact strength of a material.

Coefficient of Dynamic Friction, PV=25,000 psi ft/min

COEFFICIENT OF DYNAMIC FRICTION: The ratio of the sliding force to the normal force acting on two mating surfaces. The lower the value, the better the sliding resistance of the material.

Coefficient of Thermal Expansion, <300ºF (149ºC), x 10-5

COEFFICIENT OF THERMAL EXPANSION: The ratio of the change in a linear dimension to the original dimension of a material per unit change of temperature.

Heat Distortion Temperature, @ 264 psi, ºF(ºC)

HEAT DISTORTION TEMPERATURE: A material’s short term elevated temperature performance under a specified load.

Continuous Service Temperature, Air, ºF(ºC)

CONTINUOUS SERVICE TEMPERATURE: The maximum temperature in air that a material retains 50% of its physical properties after long term service.

Semiconductor Grade Plastic Chemical Compatibility

A = NO ATTACK, LITTLE OR NO ABSORPTION  |  B = SLIGHT ATTACK, SLIGHT REDUCTION IN PROPERTIES  |  C = MODERATE ATTACK, LARGE REDUCTION IN PROPERTIES  |  D = MATERIAL NOT RECOMMENDED IN THE CHEMICAL  |  * NO DATA AVAILABLE IN THE CHEMISTRY

Ratings are based on ambient temperature, low pressure and 100% concentrations. Exposure conditions that differ from these may affect ratings. Seal material selection is dependent on more than just chemical compatibility. Seal geometries, hardware design and application conditions are also factors in material selection. The compatibility data presented are based on the material's polymer content only. If you need assistance, please contact your local Greene, Tweed representative when selecting the appropriate Greene, Tweed & Co. product for your specific application.
